West Indies played a fantastic game of cricket against Sri Lanka in the final match today. They won the match by 5 wickets in a very close and exciting finish that kept fans on the edge of their seats. With this great victory, the West Indies team successfully won the three-match T20 international series by 2-1.

Sri Lanka batted first in this big match and set a fighting target of 170 runs for the home team. The West Indian batsmen chased down this total bravely with only two balls remaining in the entire game. It was a complete team effort from the West Indies players to secure this massive win against a strong bowling attack.

Sri Lanka's Batting Inning and Shocking Early Wickets

Sri Lanka did not start their batting inning well today and faced trouble in the very beginning. Top opening batsman Kusal Mendis got out very early after scoring only 5 runs from 5 balls. Pathum Nissanka tried his best to stabilize the ship and scored 26 runs from 17 balls with some good boundaries.

The middle-order batsmen also struggled heavily against the extra bounce and pace of the opposition. Kamindu Mishara made a solid 28 runs, but wickets kept falling at the other end at regular intervals. Sri Lanka lost their top four crucial batsmen for just 72 runs on the scoreboard during the first ten overs.

Dunith Wellalage Powers the Fighting Sri Lankan Total

When Sri Lanka was in deep trouble, young player Dunith Wellalage played a brilliant and mature knock. He scored a wonderful 43 runs off 28 balls and hit 6 beautiful fours and 1 big six. His amazing batting helped Sri Lanka rebuild their inning after the dangerous early batting collapse.

Captain Wanindu Hasaranga also played a quick cameo at the very end by scoring 21 runs off 13 balls. Thanks to these crucial lower-order contributions, Sri Lanka managed to reach a highly respectable total on the board. They were eventually bowled out for 169 runs in exactly 20 overs of their inning.

Shamar Joseph Destroys Sri Lanka with Magic Five Wickets

The absolute star of the first inning was definitely the young West Indian fast bowler Shamar Joseph. He bowled an exceptional spell of fast bowling and completely destroyed the main Sri Lankan batting lineup. He picked up 5 amazing wickets for just 33 runs in his quota of 4 overs.

The other bowlers supported him very well throughout the inning to keep the pressure high. Akeal Hosein, Matthew Forde, Jason Holder, and Roston Chase all took one important wicket each during the game. Their disciplined bowling performance stopped Sri Lanka from scoring a massive total on this tricky pitch.

West Indies Run Chase and Shocking Early Drama

Chasing a target of 170 runs was never going to be easy for the West Indies team. They got a terrible start to their chase as skipper Shai Hope got out for a duck in the very first over. Soon after the first blow, opener Brandon King also departed after making a slow 16 runs.

Sri Lankan bowlers kept building immense pressure on the new West Indies batsmen in the powerplay. Shimron Hetmyer played a quick, aggressive knock of 32 runs from 19 balls to shift some pressure back. However, West Indies soon found themselves in deep trouble at 53 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.

Sherfane Rutherford and Rovman Powell Partnership Saves Day

When West Indies was in a highly dangerous situation, Sherfane Rutherford and Rovman Powell saved the day. Both batsmen played very mature cricket under pressure and built a massive partnership for the fifth wicket. They ran hard between the wickets and hit beautiful boundaries on every bad ball.

Skipper Rovman Powell made a very useful 33 runs off 27 balls before getting out near the end. Sherfane Rutherford stayed till the very end of the match and scored a fantastic match-winning fifty. He made an unbeaten 54 runs off 40 balls with 3 fours and 4 massive sixes.

Jason Holder's Unbelievable Finish in the Final Overs

After captain Powell got out, veteran all-rounder Jason Holder came out to bat with an aggressive mindset. He did not take any time to settle down on the pitch and started hitting big sixes immediately. He completely changed the momentum of the entire game in the space of just one over.

Jason Holder scored an unbelievable and breathtaking 21 runs from just 5 balls at the end. He hit 3 huge sixes against the fast bowlers at a massive strike rate of 420. His explosive hitting finished the game easily for West Indies in the final over with 2 balls left.

Sri Lankan Bowling Performance and Costly Final Overs

Sri Lankan bowlers started the second inning with great energy and took early wickets to create hope. Wanindu Hasaranga was easily the best bowler for his side today, bowling with great control. He took 2 wickets for just 17 runs in his full quota of 4 overs.

Maheesh Theekshana also bowled a very tight spell, giving away only 26 runs for his 1 wicket. However, experienced fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera had a terrible day as he leaked 64 runs in his 4 overs. This highly expensive bowling performance in the death overs cost Sri Lanka the entire match.
