RCB are the Champions Again! Virat Kohli’s Masterclass Seals Back-to-Back IPL Titles for Bengaluru
The wait is finally over, and cricket fans all around the world are celebrating an incredible finish to the league. In a highly anticipated final match, Royal Challengers Bengaluru played against Gujarat Titans and showed why they are the real kings of cricket. It was a high-pressure match because a grand final always brings a lot of excitement, nerves, and tension for both the players and the fans.
Bengaluru managed to win the match by 5 wickets, and they did it easily with 12 balls still remaining in the game. This victory is extra special because Bengaluru has now won the championship title two times in a row. Winning a major trophy once is hard enough, but defending it successfully shows that this team has a different level of mindset and hunger for victory.
The First Innings Pressure
The grand finale started with Gujarat Titans coming out to bat first with the hope of putting a massive total on the scoreboard. However, things did not go according to their plan because Bengaluru’s bowlers were ready with a brilliant strategy from the very first ball. They bowled very tight lines and did not give any easy room to the batsmen to hit big boundaries.
The opening batsmen of Gujarat Titans found it very difficult to get timing on the ball during the early overs of the match. The pressure kept building up with every single dot ball, and that pressure eventually forced the batsmen to make mistakes. Bengaluru kept the field very tight, stopped the quick singles, and made sure that the batting side felt the heat of the final.
Early Wickets Blow for Gujarat
Gujarat Titans received their first big blow when their captain Shubman Gill got out after scoring just 10 runs off 8 balls. He tried to break the pressure by playing a big shot but ended up giving a catch to the fielder off Josh Hazlewood's bowling. Soon after his departure, Sai Sudharsan also lost his patience and got out for 12 runs off 12 balls to Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Losing two top batsmen so early in a final match is always a disaster for any team in cricket. The middle-order batsmen had to come out early and play very carefully to save the team from a total collapse. This slow start completely destroyed the momentum that Gujarat wanted to build during the initial powerplay overs of the match.
Middle Order Struggles to Score
Nishant Sindhu came to the crease and tried his best to stabilize the innings by scoring 20 runs off 18 balls with three fours. Unfortunately, his stay was cut short when he was caught out off the bowling of the young talent Rasikh Salam. The dangerous English batsman Jos Buttler also struggled a lot to find his usual timing and scored a slow 19 runs off 23 balls.
Buttler was eventually stumped by the wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma off Krunal Pandya’s clever bowling, which left Gujarat in a very deep hole. At that point, it looked like Gujarat might not even cross the 120-run mark because their main batsmen were back in the pavilion. The Bengaluru bowlers were completely ruling the ground and celebrating every single wicket with immense energy.
Sundar Saves the Day
When everything looked dark for Gujarat Titans, Washington Sundar played a truly heroic and mature innings for his team. He stayed calm at one end and started building small partnerships with the lower-order batsmen to keep the scoreboard moving. Sundar played 37 balls and scored a very important 50 runs, hitting five beautiful boundaries along the way.
His brilliant half-century gave the Gujarat bowlers something respectable to fight for in the second half of the game. He received small support from Arshad Khan, who hit two big sixes to score 15 runs off just 6 balls. Thanks to Sundar’s unbeaten fighting knock, Gujarat Titans managed to reach a total of 155 runs for 8 wickets in their 20 overs.
Bengaluru Bowling Heroics
The bowling performance from Bengaluru was absolutely top-class, and all credit goes to their bowlers for executing their plans perfectly. Young bowler Rasikh Salam was the star of the night as he picked up 3 crucial wickets while giving away only 27 runs in his 4 overs. He bowled with great variation and did not let the batsmen read his deliveries easily.
The experienced duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood also did a fantastic job by picking up two wickets each during their spells. Krunal Pandya was extremely economical, giving away just 23 runs in his 4 overs and taking one important wicket. This collective bowling effort ensured that Gujarat was restricted to a chaseable target on a good batting pitch.
Explosive Start of the Chase
Chasing a target of 156 runs in a final is never easy because of the pressure of the trophy, but Bengaluru had a clear plan. Venkatesh Iyer came out as the Impact Player and started attacking the Gujarat bowlers from the very first ball of the innings. He looked in a completely different mood and started smashing boundaries all around the stadium.
Iyer played a short but highly explosive innings of 32 runs off just 16 balls, hitting 4 boundaries and 2 massive sixes. His quick scoring completely shocked the Gujarat bowlers and took away all the early pressure from the chasing side. By the time he got out to Mohammed Siraj, Bengaluru had already scored more than 60 runs in just the fifth over.
Rashid Khan Creates Hope
Cricket is a beautiful game because it changes its direction very quickly, and that is exactly what happened after the powerplay. Rashid Khan came to bowl and completely turned the game alive with his magical leg-spin deliveries. He first dismissed the captain Rajat Patidar for 15 runs and then quickly removed Krunal Pandya for just 1 run.
Before these two wickets, Kagiso Rabada had also dismissed Devdutt Padikkal for 1 run, which suddenly put Bengaluru in trouble. They went from a very comfortable position to a tricky situation at 91 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. The Gujarat fans started shouting loudly in the stadium, hoping for a miraculous comeback from their team.
King Kohli Takes Control
When the team needed someone to stand up and guide them through the storm, Virat Kohli showed why he is called the legend of the game. He did not panic at all after losing quick wickets at the other end and decided to anchor the chase himself. Kohli started playing low-risk cricket, taking easy singles and hitting boundaries only on loose balls.
His presence at the crease gave immense confidence to the rest of the team and silenced the aggressive Gujarat fielders. Kohli showed his masterclass by playing an unbeaten knock of 75 runs off just 42 balls, which included 9 fours and 3 massive sixes. It was a classic Kohli innings where he controlled the tempo of the match perfectly from start to finish.
Tim David Finishes Well
Tim David came out to bat when the match was in a very tense situation, and he did his job perfectly. He did not let the pressure affect his game and played a very supportive role alongside Virat Kohli. David scored a quick 24 runs off 17 balls, smashing 3 fours and 1 big six during his short stay.
His positive intent made sure that Gujarat could not build any more pressure on Bengaluru during the middle overs. Even though David got out to Arshad Khan near the end, the victory was already in Bengaluru's hands. Jitesh Sharma then joined Kohli and scored 11 not out to comfortably cross the finishing line in the 18th over.
Back to Back Glory
This victory is a historic moment for Bengaluru because they have successfully retained their championship title for the second consecutive year. For a long time, people used to make fun of this team for not winning trophies, but now they have created a legacy. They have proved that they know how to win big matches when the stakes are high.
The players ran onto the field to celebrate, and the entire stadium erupted in joy as soon as the winning runs were scored. It was a complete team effort throughout the tournament, and they deserved to lift the trophy again. The celebrations in Bengaluru are going to last for a very long time because this team has made history.
What an absolutely unforgettable final match we have witnessed between these two great teams! Bengaluru proved their dominance once again, while Gujarat showed great spirit throughout the tournament.
Now, I want to know your thoughts about this grand finale. What do you think was the exact turning point of this match that turned the game in Bengaluru's favor?
